The Lower Platte River and tributaries are essentially ice-free along main channels. Shore ice is still present in some areas especially on sandbars. This ice is very rotten and discolored. It does not appear to pose a flood threat. Rotten shore ice is also present in some areas sheltered from main channel flow such as upstream on the Sarpy County side of the I-80 bridge. At this point the Cass County side is completely free of ice. There is some floating ice in channels. Downstream in the Louisville area some rotten ice is present on sandbars. Other than some floating ice the Lower Platte River is ice free to the mouth. The Missouri River is clear of floating ice. This will be the last ice report for this winter season. All who participated in this important program are to be congratulated for a job well done. We now have completed three successive years of this comprehensive ice monitoring program. Collectively we have learned much about this potent disaster threat. We are much more familiar with the rate of ice formation, ice action related to river flow and ice danger signs as well as trouble spots for ice-caused lowland flooding. We will resume this program next year unless we have an extremely mild winter. Once again, thank you for your outstanding efforts. If summer flood threats develop and information collection again becomes vital to our coordinated disaster response we will again activate our reporting network. LOWER PLATTE RIVER BASIN
